Description
The Pencil Slat Mill, located south of Moulton, operated during the early twentieth century. Northern transplants to the south made up the bulk of the workforce. After factory workers made the pencil slats in Moulton, they shipped the slats to another location to add the lead. The mill closed after the owner killed an African-American worker during an argument. The owner fled Moulton and never returned.
