Description
Old Town Cemetery is the earliest know cemetery in Athens. Records indicate that the first burials date from the 1820s and continue through the mid-1800s, with some burials past 1900. Many markers in the cemetery are sunken below ground, while others were destroyed or removed from site. The entire block was purchased for ten dollars from Robert Beaty and John Carriel.
