Description

A factory community appeared after the opening of Pepperell Manufacturing Company’s Opelika textile mill in 1925. A school founded in the new neighborhood under the aegis of the county school system served the first- through sixth-grade students of white mill workers. Sometime in the 1930s, the school added seventh-, eighth-, and ninth-grade curricula. Children in the community too old to attend Pepperell Village School were zoned for Henry G. Clift High School.
