Title
Hooper House
Subject
Guntersville; Marshall County, Alabama; Alexander Richie Hooper
Description
This 2 story home is located on 2204 Scott Street in Guntersville, AL. The home was built ca. 1910, updated as an apartment building in 1948, remodeled in 1985, and now stands as Lake Guntersville Bed & Breakfast.
According to family tradition Alexander Richie Hooper, who had this home built for his family, had a problem with not being able to obtain bricks for the construction. Instead of letting this impede the construction, Hooper established a brick factory. This factory not only supplied the bricks for his home but also provided the bricks used to build a high school, the post office, Guntersville Pharmacy, and Wanda's Ice Cream Parlor.
