Description

Currently, the Morris Chapel Methodist Church is located on Lawrence County Road 217 near Hillsboro, Alabama. Named after the Reverend Moses S. Morris, the church dates to 1852 making it one of oldest churches located in Lawrence County.

Originally the church sat near Shoal Creek three miles east of the current site. After the church flooded several times, in 1902 the congregation made the decision to move it to the current site. Additionally, the creek divided the congregation in half.

Between 1902 and 1907, builders dismantled the original church, moved the lumber and materials to the new site, and reconstructed the church. In 1937, the congregation built a new church building, which was remodeled in 1960.

Each year the church holds an Annual Homecoming celebration on the 3rd Sunday in May.
