The Colbert County Board of Education began building a separate elementary school at the present location on Sunset Drive in 1983.  The school began serving grades K-6 in the fall of 1984.  A gymnasium was build in 1987.  Eight new classrooms were added in 1994 to accommodate students and faculty from the closing of Littleville School. Frahn and built in 1927 in the neoclassical style and the neo-Tudor Gothic tradition, symbolically associated with the Ivy League schools. Decorative brick work, which originally crowned the building, gave it a castle-like appearance. It was known as one of the finest buildings in the region and was often the scene of political rallies and other special events. The state-of-the-art auditorium, with a seating capacity of 500, had elevated floors and opera-style seating. The stage had hand-painted canvas backdrops and lighting. In 1959, for a sum of $300, this school was transferred from the Colbert County School System to the newly formed Muscle Shoals City Board of Education. The building itself still exists, however, it is currently the Muscle Shoals Board of Education Building. The structure and historical marker are located on S. Wilson Dam Rd. Since the original opening of the school in 1977, Cosmetology, Engineering Graphics, Electronics/Robotics, Principles of Technology, Technology Education, Family and Consumer Science, and Cisco Academy programs were approved by the Alabama Department of Education and implemented at the Muscle Shoals Area Vocational School.  Due to economic shifts in the local economy Trowel Trades and Horticulture were eliminated from the vocational curriculum.  The Industrial Electricity program was eliminated due to low student enrollment. In 2000, the faculty and staff requested a school name change to reflect the curriculum changes that represented the technology and computer skills required for today's labor force.  In October 2000, the name of the Muscle Shoals Area Vocational School changed to the Muscle Shoals Center for Technology. Thompson in 1939. The house was built in 1840. The painting shows the front exterior of the house with its doors, windows, shutters, columned porches, two sets of steps, sloped roofs, and two chimneys surrounded by trees and landscaping. There is a fountain in front of the house. There is a woman on the side porch and a couple coming up the walk, all in period dress. The house is placed within framing art showing its architectural features including the molding under the roof, side and top views of the columns, the side steps, a side view of the house, a floor plan, a scale, the fountain, an iron gate, and flowering bushes. In the lower right corner, there is an Alabama Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture stamp with a handwritten inscription "1st Medal/HC" and the artist's information block which reads: "Measured drawing, The Eslava House, Spring Hill, Ala., Major IV, Architectural Design 476, March 4, 1939, C.W. It is located on Pine Street. The building, designed by the Birmingham architecture firm Warren Knight and Davis, started off as a gymnasium that included a swimming pool in the basement. In 1972 the building was transformed into a media center that gradually became a Communications and Theater building. Today it is known only as the Communications Building. It cost $100,000 to construct the building. Language A language of the resource English Subject The topic of the resource In keeping with the goal of the Ralph Brown Draughon Special Collections and Archives to focus on the history Alabama and Auburn University, oral historian Dr. Heather M. Haley organized and initiated the Social Justice and Women's Rights (SJWR) Oral History Project in early 2017. This project comprises a collection of interviews, transcripts, and ephemera from Auburn University students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni who participated in local, regional, and national protests for women's rights, science- and evidence-based policy, and social justice. This information serves as an essential historical record for researchers interested in the personal experiences of protest from residents of the Deep South. Financial support from the Samia I. Spencer Creative Mentorship Award funded the expansion of this project into an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Public History and Women's Studies Programs at Auburn University. The collection contains fifteen audio interviews, totaling approximately twenty-four hours of content. The SJWR Oral History Project has grown to include a diverse cadre of voices from interviewees of varying ages, socio-economic backgrounds, (dis)abilities, and sexual orientations. In the 2019-2020 academic year, the files were added to the open-source web publishing platform Omeka for easy access by users from across the globe. Auburn University Special Collections is one of only four university-supported digital repositories that maintain collections related to recent protest marches in the South. The SJWR Oral History Project is the only one that collects and maintains oral histories, images, and ephemera not only from women's marches but also from protests that advocated for evidence-based policy and social justice that built on the momentum of the Women's March on Washington. Warles sometime between 1917 and 1942. The house was completed in 1841. The painting shows the front exterior of the house with its doors, windows, shutters, two-story columned porch, steps, balcony, iron railings, flat roof and two chimneys surrounded by trees and landscaping. There are men and women on the porch and in front of the house, all in period dress. There is also a horse and carriage in front of the house. The house is placed above framing art showing its architectural features including the iron railings, the molding above the door, a corner of the roof and the molding under it, a column, and scales. In the lower right corner, there is an Alabama Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture stamp. The painting is in good condition with pieces missing from the upper corners and is encapsulated.
