In 1919, Mrs. Susan J, Price, a professor in the department of geography, recognized the need for a formal stage and a memorial to the six students of State Normal School that did not return home from WWI. Her original design consisted of a half enclosed dome supported by six pillars to represent the six students. Although the finished amphitheater did not follow Mrs. Price's original plan, the structure still stood as a memorial to those six students lost in WWI. The amphitheater was completed in 1934."},{"label":"Creator","value":"Claire Eagle, University of North Alabama"},{"label":"Source","value":"Text:\r\nDoris Kelso, \"A History of the UNA Memorial Amphitheater,\" Journal of Muscle Shoals History VI, (1978); 135-38.\r\nImages: University of North Alabama Archives and Special Collections"},{"label":"Publisher","value":"Alabama Cultural Resource Survey"},{"label":"Date","value":"1934"},{"label":"Format","value":"Text"}],"sequences":[{"@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif/405/sequence/normal","@type":"sc:Sequence","label":"Current Page Order","viewingDirection":"left-to-right","viewingHint":"paged","canvases":[{"@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif/405/canvas/p1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Memorial Amphitheater_UA-A6.jpg","thumbnail":{"@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif-img/407/full/200%2C157/0/default.jpg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif-img/407","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"width":11217,"height":8814,"images":[{"@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif/405/annotation/p0001-image","@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif-img/407/full/800%2C629/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","width":11217,"height":8814,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif-img/407","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif/405/canvas/p1"}]},{"@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif/405/canvas/p2","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Memorial Amphitheater Plaque_UA-A23.jpg","thumbnail":{"@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif-img/408/full/200%2C135/0/default.jpg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif-img/408","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"width":2390,"height":1608,"images":[{"@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif/405/annotation/p0002-image","@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif-img/408/full/800%2C538/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","width":2390,"height":1608,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif-img/408","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://omeka.lib.auburn.edu/iiif/405/canvas/p2"}]}]}]}
